Republika wins another 2 awards !strip26.04.2012

This year too, our agency got 2 new awards at well known International Festival for Creative Industry - FORFEST, which took place in Budva from 19th to 21st April.

At this Festival, took attendance 8 countries from the region,where 43 TVC from their marketing agencies, entered in the finale.
Republika was awarded in 2 categories - Publication and Media with TVC Godzila, as well as in the category Design with Print advert Apple for the campaign of ELEM.

At the Festival of tourism communications  which took place in Budva on the 25th and 26th of March, Republika won the first prize in the category TV production, for the commercial Macedonia Timeless – Food.

More than 80 works from Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Monte Negro were in competition.

The members of the international jury are well renowned names in the world of advertising and tourism in the region: Ivo Laurencic from Macedonia, Ivan Stankovic from Serbia, Edvin Jurin from Croatia, Jirji Hajek from the Check Republic and Aleksandra Lang from Bulgaria.

Macedonia Timeless – Foodstrip08.02.2011

About this camapign: The video commercial Macedonia Timeless – Food, was shot in several locations throughout Macedonia, following the basic story of the video that Macedonia is a beautiful country, and it takes a lot of time to travel around it, precisely because of the beauty and characteristics of its cuisine. 

 

The final choice of locations was brought down to 5-6 restaurants, which depicted the authentic Macedonian space and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the time limitations didn’t allow us to show many other locations and restaurants which are certainly a part of this timeless story. The locations used in the video are the national restaurants “Vodenica” and “Pestera” at Matka in Skopje, then “Ostrovo” in Ohrid, “Via Ignatia” in Vevcani combined with Mavrovo Lake and Kolesino waterfall. 

The crew was big, considering the project, around 40 people mostly from Macedonia apart from the director Paul Tickell and the food designer, who were from England and part of the technical crew – the grip master, Nenad Vasic from Serbia, and the camera and video control escorts, who were also from Serbia, and the crew for special slow motion shooting from Croatia. The video was shot for 9 days, the last 3 of which were shooting of slow motion and sfx shots for animation. 

 

 


Republika is the agency behind the filming of this video, produced by Quasarfilm, and part of the author crew that worked on this video, particularly the Macedonian part, is: DOP – Dushan Kardalevski, gaffer – Kostadin Donchev, production designer – Vlatko Zafirkovski, food preparation coordinator – Julijana Geshovska, assistant director – Igor Aleksov, casting director – Katerina Afkova, and many other collaborators and assistants that we would like to thank for their unselfish work, which lasted for as l ong as 14 hours a day.

The final music is the work of Dorijan Jovanovic and Darko Spasovski, an adaptation of the original theme – bridal dance, whose rhythm fitted the editing of the video the most, and the three things such as the Macedonian atmosphere, food and Macedonian rhythm, fit each other, complementing their mutual beauty. 

As already mentioned the director of the video is Paul Tickell from England, who’s a winner of the prestigious BAFTA award, for the short film “Shot two”, a prestigious director who works mostly for the BBC. Paul has been to Macedonia before, when working on a documentary about byzantine fresco painting, and he is currently working on a documentary about the world renowned band “Kraftwerk”. 

 

The video was prepared for more than a month, mostly because the trip around all of Macedonia, which had to be taken in order to find the right places, because the visual identity of the place is making the authentic local food even better – for example, a piece of cheese eaten at a sheepfold in a mountain, doesn’t taste the same as the same piece of cheese eaten at home. Then we spent about a week making the choice of foods, appropriate for the locations in which we did the shooting, doing the casting, technical scouting on the chosen locations for pre-lighting  and the scenography for the shooting. 

The most interesting moment was the first part of the shooting in Koleshino, it rained that day in entire Macedonia and Strumica, but luckily somehow the rain avoided us although we were shooting an exterior and all the time we made plans to postpone the shooting if it rains, and all the other locations were already booked. We also have to mention that shooting of food is exceptionally difficult because it takes a long time, so the food has to be filmed fresh and continuously be refreshed, or new food has to be prepared, but after the viewer’s response and a job well done, you forget all the troubles and are left only with the positive feeling of having the work done well.
